Boston BioCom is progressing on the early development of a new technology platform that could move quickly to address a huge market. We are advancing a treatment of traumatic injury, trauma and other conditions associated with cell necrosis such as burns, ischemic reperfusion injury of the brain and heart including stroke and myocardial infarction, heart failure, kidney failure, acute lung injury and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, and Multi-Organ Dysfunction Syndrome ( MODS).
Through its work in the Boston and Harvard medical communities and its earlier work with associates in Russia, the Company believes that it has identified an important therapeutic approach to traumatic shock and tissue damage.
Our strategy represents a major opportunity for a critical therapeutic advance. There are over 1.5 million hospitalizations per year in the US for acute injury, including 300,000 hospitalizations for life-threatening conditions associated with injury. It is estimated that major trauma generates a cost of $27 billion a year with complications adding $50,000 to the cost of the each trauma hospitalization. This translates into a US market in the treatment of trauma of greater than $1 billion per year. Boston BioCom has identified a protectable IP position for further development of this therapeutic approach to traumatic injury and filed the preliminary patent application.
